Stitched Quilt Shop, a new destination for modern makers, will
officially open its doors in downtown Racine with a ribbon-cutting celebration at 10 a.m. on Friday,
November 7 at 505 Sixth Street. The shop will offer high-quality quilting fabrics, notions, patterns, and
creative classes designed to inspire both new and experienced sewists.
“Stitched was born out of a love of craft, community, and connection,” said owner Autumn Latimore a 25
year+ Racine resident and accomplished quilter. “It’s more than a fabric store; it’s a gathering space for
creativity and inspiration.”
The shop’s curated selection includes contemporary cottons, bold African and Asian prints, cross-stitch
and embroidery supplies, and specialty notions. In addition to retail offerings, Stitched will host small-
group classes, trunk shows, and monthly clubs that foster skill-sharing and storytelling among makers.
The shop will be managed by McKenzie Weaver, a former librarian and needlework enthusiast.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be followed by an open-house celebration where guests can explore the
shop, meet the team, and enjoy refreshments. The event is open to the public.
Why It Matters
The quilting industry in the U.S. is thriving, with nine to 11 million active quilters contributing to an
estimated $4.5 billion in annual market revenue. The global quilting and hobby-fabric market is valued at
over $5 billion — and continues to grow as more people seek creative, community-based hobbies.
Stitched Quilt Shop stands out as one of a small number of Black-owned quilt and fabric retailers in the
Midwest. Latimore’s vision blends inclusivity, skill, and storytelling, inviting a wider range of makers to
see themselves reflected in the world of quilting.
Latimore, a longtime corporate marketing and communications executive turned entrepreneur, envisions
Stitched as both a retail hub and a creative refuge: “Every stitch tells a story. Our hope is that Stitched
becomes a space where people can learn a craft, laugh with friends, and create something meaningful
with their hands.”
