Racine Concert Band’s 103rd Season Finale – Sunday, August 17

Featuring Doug Clemons and the Racine Clarinet Quartet

The Racine Concert Band’s 103rd season of free summer concerts comes to a close this Sunday, August 17 at 7:00 p.m. at Rotary Park, outside Festival Hall, 5 Fifth Street.

This performance marks the 1,537th free concert of the official band of the City of Racine and features acclaimed performer Doug Clemons alongside the Racine Clarinet Quartet.

Clemons – an accomplished actor, singer, director, choreographer, and writer – will perform Bizet’s stirring “Toreador Song”, Reynaldo Hahn’s “Exquisite Hour”, the Gershwin brothers’ “S’Wonderful”, and Lerner & Loewe’s “On the Street Where You Live” from My Fair Lady.

A frequent presence on Milwaukee stages, Clemons’ credits include the Florentine Opera, Renaissance Theatreworks, Skylight Music Theatre, Milwaukee Opera Theatre, Northern Sky Theatre, Fireside Theatre, and Children’s Theatre of Madison. His career has also taken him to the New York Music Theatre Festival, New York’s Cherry Lane Theatre, Chicago Music Theatre Festival, Utah Light Opera, Norwegian Cruise Lines, and even as a backup vocalist for Michael Bublé.

The Racine Clarinet Quartet – Graciela Baldwin, Karen Boyd, Neil Zimmerman, and Norm Werth – will perform LeRoy Anderson’s lively “Clarinet Candy”, a piece that famously drew an audience of 7,000 at its 1965 Miami premiere.

The program will also feature masterworks by Malcolm Arnold, Dmitri Kabalevsky, and Mikhail Ippolitov-Ivanov, all building to John Philip Sousa’s celebrated march “The Thunderer”.

The Summer Sweepstakes Spectacular wraps up with multiple prize opportunities, including the grand prize – a personalized, one-of-a-kind RCVip Season Experience.

Music Director Mark Eichner, now in his 24th season, will conduct. Longtime WRJN radio broadcaster Don Rosen returns as Master of Ceremonies.
