Town of Wheatland Declares State of Emergency Amid Ongoing Flooding Crisis

Town Chairman Jeffrey J. Butler has officially declared a State of Emergency for the Town of Wheatland, effective April 20, 2026. The declaration follows a relentless series of severe weather events and excessive rainfall that have caused widespread flooding, property damage, and significant threats to public safety.

The flooding has reached critical levels, impacting public infrastructure and residential areas. Emergency responders have already executed multiple rescues, and officials warn that the risk to citizens remains high as saturated ground and rising water levels continue to create hazardous conditions

Emergency Measures and Requests for Aid:

  • Life-Safety Operations: Emergency services are currently prioritized for water rescues and the protection of critical infrastructure. Residents are urged to remain vigilant as more rescues are anticipated in the coming days.

  • Infrastructure Damage: Widespread road damage has been reported. The Town is working to assess the full extent of the impact on public and private property.

  • Coordination with County and State: The Town of Wheatland has officially exhausted local resources and is requesting immediate assistance from Kenosha County. Furthermore, the Town has requested that the County advise the State of Wisconsin of these emergency conditions to secure further disaster relief.

Important Safety Notice for Residents:

  • Evacuation & Rescues: If you find yourself trapped by rising water, contact emergency services immediately.

  • Travel Hazards: Do not attempt to drive across flooded roads. Many roads within the Town may be undermined or washed out, making them unstable.

  • Emergency Authorities: This declaration, made pursuant to Wisconsin Statutes 323.11 and 323.14 (4), allows the Town to act with the necessary speed to manage the crisis while the Town Board is unable to convene.

The Town of Wheatland will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available. Residents are encouraged to monitor local news and official social media channels for the latest on road closures and safety instructions.
