The state of anti-racism work is the next Courageous Conversation topic

“The Continued Urgency and Need for Anti-Racism Work” is the topic for the upcoming Courageous Conversation on Thursday, Feb. 8 at the Kenosha Civil War Museum, 5400 1st Ave., Kenosha.

The free, in-person discussion is co-sponsored by the Kenosha Coalition for Dismantling Racism. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the event will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Alex Whitaker, organizer of the event, said it’s a good time to examine anti-racism work. In the summer of 2020, following the murder of George Floyd, there was a great deal of attention and energy around the topic of race, the history of racism and how racism persists today, he said. In the nearly four years since that time, while the work continues, there has been a backlash around anti-racism work, diversity, equity and inclusion, he said.

“The cultural landscape around these conversations has changed. In this Courageous Conversation, Dr. Moreano will offer perspective as a seasoned practitioner and encouragement to keep going as an advocate committed to ushering in change. We believe both are timely for our community,” said Whitaker.

Dr. Roger Moreano, founder and president of Bridges 4 Justice LLC, will discuss the unique situation of anti-racist work in 2024, and he will offer strategies for the work ahead. Bridges 4 Justice is a diversity and inclusion organization, originally designed to provide training on creating greater equity and how to meet the ever-evolving challenges of diversity and inclusion in organizations and institutions. A moderated question and answer session will follow the presentation.
