This Friday, three pillars of Midwest musical history will converge at Kenosha’s White Lilac for an intimate performance under a new collective banner: Cold Comfort. Featuring John Sieger, Mike Fredrickson, and Robbie Gjersoe, the evening promises a rare, “no-filler” look at the craft of songwriting from three men who have spent decades defining the region’s sound.
The Lineup
-
John Sieger: A Kenosha native and frontman of the legendary Semi-Twang and The R&B Cadets. Sieger’s catalog has been mined by icons like Dwight Yoakam and Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads). Known for his “terse wit and keen melodies,” Sieger will be debuting material from his forthcoming record, Swearing in Cursive.
-
Mike Fredrickson: Leader of the reunited Moselys and a staple of the Milwaukee Riverwest scene. A veteran collaborator with Paul Cebar and Robbie Fulks, Fredrickson is as celebrated for his hook-heavy songwriting as he is for his photorealistic visual art.
-
Robbie Gjersoe: An elite multi-instrumentalist whose resume reads like a Who’s Who of Americana, having toured and recorded with The Flatlanders, Joe Ely, and Jerry Jeff Walker.
A Room Built for Listening
While “Americana” is the easy label, Cold Comfort defies narrow categorization. The trio blends pop sensibilities, rock energy, and soul, filtered through a lifetime of performance. The performance at White Lilac marks a return to the essentials: great songs delivered in a room designed for those who actually listen.
“His terse wit and keen melodies get him in the listener’s door… but he knows the world would make no sense without rocking & rolling, and so he delivers.” — Richard Bennett, Producer
